  • Overview

    The Senior Accountant position is responsible for ensuring compliance with internal controls and executing general accounting activities, including the day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and in preparing financial statements and reports. TDS Telecom has a complex structure with over one hundred legal entities. Accountants are assigned responsibility for multiple legal entities across all TDS Telecom business segments. (e.g. Wireline, Cable and HMS.) Specific responsibilities may vary depending upon assignment. This position is also responsible for demonstrating leadership within their individual and/or team roles.



    • Accurate application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) (including regulatory specific accounting guidance)
    • Complete understanding and application of GAAP to the revenue, fixed asset, treasury, and general accounting functions.
    • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of account coding.
    • Prepares journal entries, maintains and reconciles ledger and sub-ledger accounts.
    • Maintain Fixed Asset records.
    • Provide income and transaction tax support.
    • Prepare and analyze monthly income and balance sheet statements which will be used for internal and external reporting purposes.
    • Respond to financial inquiries; provide requested information for use in effective management of the business and/or meeting external reporting needs.
    • Understand and adhere to TDS Telecom policies and procedures
    • Adhere to controls and standard business practices.
    • Escalate non-compliance issues when identified
    • Safeguard company assets (cash, fixed assets, inventory)
      Financial reporting
    • Provide and effectively communicate financial information for internal and external audit.
    • Prepare certain external regulatory filings and reporting.
      Review work product of other team members
    • Lead certain accounting activities as assigned.
    • Validate work product is accurate and appropriate.
    • Provide feedback, including sharing best practices, to team member.
    • Participate on cross-functional teams as required (e.g. acquisition/merger support, billing conversion).
    • Research and recommend appropriate accounting treatment for business activities and support applicable memo documentation.
    • Identify business process improvement opportunities; lead in the development and implementation of effective solutions.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Performs special projects as assigned


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting –OR- 4+ year’s professional work experience.
    • 2+ years accounting experience.


    Other Qualifications

    • CPA certification preferred.
    • Proficient with computers and various software packages utilized within TDS (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Environment, etc.).
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and work with others in a team environment.
    • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail; superior analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Accurate application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Superior organization skills; ability to work effectively under multiple, and often changing priorities.
    • Consistently demonstrates a professional image and positive attitude.
    • Able to identify business process improvement opportunities and lead in the development and implementation of effective solutions.
