    Zolo Media is television in Central Oregon, operating two broadcast television stations located in the outdoor paradise of Bend, OR:  KOHD-TV ABC and KBNZ-TV CBS


    The Bend market is one of the most desirable markets to live, work and play; voted #1 Small Cities for Business and Careers (Forbes, 2016), #1 Best Performing City in the US (Milken Institute, 2016 & 2017) and the Top Multi-sport Town according to Outdoor Magazine, 2017.     Unlike most local news stations, Central Oregon Daily News offers a transformative style of reporting that includes developing and telling deeper stories, bringing meaning to news stories. The Anchor-News Storyteller must be able to harness their creativity to tell original, interesting stories that matter to our viewers. 



    The Anchor-News Storyteller must possess imagination, originality and an on-air personality that is warm, credible and sincere. They must be able to conduct investigative interviews, analyze and interpret public events, and develop editorial insight that will help tell stories that our viewers want to know and need to know in Central Oregon. Most importantly, they must exude the core values of Zolo Media:

    The Anchor-News Storyteller must be passionate about Central Oregon and about news. They must be curious and poses the knowledge and skill to span a broad variety of topics to include current events, history, education, business, social trends, people, community service and other elements uniquely local to Central Oregon. The Anchor-News Storyteller will collaborate with reporters and on-air talent to tell stories from the studio or from the field.


    Anchor (either solo or as a co-anchor) will host various news segments, as needed, which includes reading the teleprompter, cross-talking with meteorologists and reporters, interviewing live guests on-set or via live shots, and being able to adjust to and adlib live breaking news situations.


    Specific requirements include research, development and writing stories for the daily news broadcast, exercising editorial judgement to ensure quality live daily content. Also to include: writing and producing concise, accurate copy and adhering to strict deadlines.


    Research, prepare and interview people in a wide range of different fields and circumstances. May also include the following:

    • Building contacts to maintain a flow of news, for example, police and emergency services, local council, community groups, health trusts, press officers from a variety of organizations, the general public, etc.;
    • Seeking out and investigating stories via contacts, press releases and other media;
    • Attending press conferences and asking questions;
    • Attending a variety of events, such as council meetings, sporting events, talent contests, etc.;
    • Answering the phones and reacting to topical stories that matter to our viewers; and,
    • Working closely with the broadcast team, photographers, editors and producers.

    Recording/editing interviews using technical camera, recording and computer equipment.

    Live online reporting or real-time social media blogging when covering important events.

    Emcee events for Zolo Media, as needed.


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor degree in Journalism preferred. Trade school training helpful.
    • 5+ years’ experience of on-camera storytelling.

    Other Qualifications

    • Able to professionally interact with customers and co-workers via strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Reliable and motivated to promptly fulfill obligations; able to work independently without supervision.
    • Able to analyze situations, use logic to address issues and pay careful attention to details.
    • Demonstrated writing and editorial judgement experience.
    • Familiar with newsroom producing software.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office & Apple computers, understand and able to troubleshoot computers preferred; Basic understanding of broadcast cameras and how to operate them.
    • Basic non-linear editing skills. Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, Avid, or similar.
    • Able to work evenings and weekends as a part of a regular schedule and/or dictated by business needs.
    • Strong work ethic with an emphasis on team commitment.
    • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record (supplied by applicant).
    • Successful criminal background check.
