    We are looking for an Outside Sales Account Executive to sell our telecommunications solutions and technology offerings, including our ManagedIP Hosted VOIP solution in our Madison, WI and surrounding markets. We need a “hunter” type who can develop new accounts in a business-to-business environment. Your prospects will include everything from small “mom and pop” businesses all the way up to large Fortune 500 companies, with a variable sales cycle that can range from a one-call close up to 2 months or more.


    Our sales force focuses on uncovering customer needs, understanding key business drivers, leveraging the latest technology, and delivering compelling TDS solutions to our prospects that meet their business needs in a timely manner. Once sold, the Account Executive manages the existing customer base and is responsible for the overall care, growth and retention of those customers. Consistent new business development through cold calling and prospecting, with a drive to succeed and grow the assigned book of business, in a quota driven environment are critical to the success of this position.

    As an Outside Sales Representative, you will be responsible solely for new business development. This activity-driven “hunting” role will require that you focus on cold calling new customers to sell our technology offerings covering voice, data and VOIP. Though you will spend much of your time meeting with potential customers, your position will also require daily attendance at the main office.


    Your specific duties will include:

    • Identifying, contacting and building relationships with prospective customers through a combination of telephone and in-person cold calls, networking and referrals to obtain appointments
    • Conducting sales calls to determine customer needs, gain information, determine how TDS can help solve business challenges and effectively communicate TDS' value proposition to prospective customers
    • Leveraging the TDS CRM system to develop a prospecting and sales strategy that ensures high activity and effective closing ratios
    • Writing and submitting accurate and timely orders following the established sales process
    • Designing a tailored, cost-effective solution and sales plan for each account
    • Effectively utilizing internal resources to customize and present solutions
    • Maintaining accurate and timely customer status and forecasts utilizing the CRM system
    • Building and maintaining relationships with contacts and lead sources


    As an Outside Sales Representative, you must be highly self-motivated, goal-oriented and driven to exceed expectations. You must also have solid organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills as well strong analytic and problem-solving skills. It is also important that you have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills as well as the ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of customers.


    Specific qualifications for the Outside Sales Representative position include the following:


    Required Qualifications:

    • 2+ years sales experience.
    • 1+ years of experience prospecting and generating leads through cold calling.
    • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, insurance, and have access to reliable transportation.

    Other Qualifications:

    • Proven ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing, multi-system environment.
    • Proven ability to manage a territory using technology, prioritization and time management skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to convincingly persuade others as evidenced in personal interviews and via telephone.
    • Ability to clearly and effectively set goals and then attain them as evidenced by a track record of setting goals, creating a work plan, establishing a reward, working diligently, measuring performance, adjusting as necessary and then accomplishing the goal.
    • Ability to work independently as evidenced by identifying problems, gathering data, weighing the facts, consulting others as necessary, making decisions and effectively implementing the decision.
    • Track record of success in business to business sales.
    • Computer literacy (i.e., Excel, Word, email, Internet).
    • Must maintain quota levels.
