We are open to filling this internship at TDS Telecom’s office in Madison, WI. The ideal candidate would be available part-time (at least 15 hours) during the academic year and full-time (up to 40 hours) in the summer.

The IT Systems Intern partners with, and learns from, a diverse integrated Systems Infrastructure team.  The primary role of the Systems Intern is to provide technical assistance and support to TDS staff for network, hardware, and software issues. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong communication, effective problem-solving, and an appetite for learning. This position will work with cutting-edge technologies to develop and support robust applications and platforms in our data centers across the country.  You will:

• Work on a team where we value open source
• Help us further automate our infrastructure with tools like Puppet, Ansible, CloudForms and OpenShift
• Script using Bash or Python
• Work with a large software development teams to design and deploy custom software
• Work with Service Provider networking teams to make applications and network work together as part of an overall solution (think anycast, etc)
• Work with core technologies including Linux, Load Balancing, Virtualization, Identity Federation SAML/OAuth, LDAP, DNS, etc
• Help troubleshoot issues that span applications, systems, firewalls, and other network devices

Required Qualifications

• Currently on track for a two- or four-year degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other comparable degree with a focus in networking/systems.
• 1+ semester coursework focused on Linux or Unix Operating Systems (must have received a passing grade).

Other Qualifications

• Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage time.
• Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
• Knowledge of scripting languages, bash or python.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
