BendBroadband, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, employs nearly 300 people. Serving Central Oregon for more than 50 years, the company began offering local cable TV service in 1955. Today, BendBroadband offers broadband, fiber connectivity, cable television, and telephone services for commercial and residential customers.

 

Locally we have a full time need for a Sr NOC Technician in our Bend office.

 

The Senior Network Operations Center Technician (Sr NOC) is responsible for maintaining and supporting Broadband products, service delivery equipment, processes and the associated customer experience.  This position will interface directly with customers and collaborate with key departments within BendBroadband and TDS Broadband to monitor and spot service issues and provide seamless solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and tests Network and Service performance, and provides performance statistics, reports and recommend solutions to Engineering team and Management.  Collaborates with engineers to create optimal network design topologies and configurations.  Assists in anticipating future capacity needs and recommending solutions.  Monitors key business infrastructure, such as billing system.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience within OSI Layers 1-5 with the ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, sniffer, packet capture software, and test equipment.
  • Diagnoses, resolves, and documents hardware and software infrastructure problems in a timely and accurate fashion.  Identifies and works to prevent, to the extent possible, problems and roadblocks.
  • Handles incoming calls, and/or e-mails regarding network connectivity problems, server problems, or other service issues.  Provides data center customer installation and remote hands.
  • Maintains and configures Monitoring tools to provide optimal uptime for service.
  • Leads and mentors teammates cross-departmentally:
    • Provides interface capability between functional teams and customers.
    • Leads in the development, documentation and training of procedures and processes and disaster recovery plans.
    • Communicates and enforces company policy to subscribers and employees.
    • Provides and documents processes and procedures improvements.
    • Assists in handling escalated tickets and outage scenarios, provides direction and leadership to NOC team. Provides feedback for process improvements.
  • Executes, maintains, and supports backup and security procedures.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (or higher) -OR- 2+ years professional work experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in applying technical principles, configuring and supporting an enterprise technology.
  • 1+ year supervisory or leadership or mentoring experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Preferred Certification in Cisco and/or any Network/System related certificates.
  • Advanced Voice/Data resolution capabilities (VoIP, MIP, ATS / Deployment, network upgrades)
  • SME knowledge of switch platforms (Nortel, EWSD, DCO, Lucent, Metaswitch, Broadsoft)
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards, strong work ethic with an emphasis on team commitment, shows respect for others, acknowledges and builds on others ideas, and support group decisions.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL or Service improvement plans.
  • Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environment required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Self-motivated and directed.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of training users in network, applications and operating system fundamentals and writing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of an operating system; for example understands job control, soft and hard links or shortcuts, distinctions between the kernel and the user environment.
  • Knowledge of Virtual Machine, and Blade Server environments.
  • Preferred experience in writing scripts in some administrative language (Bash, Perl, etc..)
  • Experience with Cisco and other network related hardware.
  • Work knowledge of UNIX/Linux/Windows systems.
  • Proven attention to detail and commitment to follow through.
  • Ability to effectively identify and reroute problems out of professional scope.
  • Ability to monitor, backup and maintain disaster recovery plans for all network systems.
  • Understands and supports company goals, including working overtime as business needs dictate.
